Dental crowns are permanent prosthetics that can cover a damaged tooth. Depending on your specific case, we may recommend dental crowns in place of a large filling or if the tooth is weak and fractured.
If your teeth are weak, damaged, or cracked and cannot be fixed with alternative treatments, we may suggest a dental crown. A crown provides you with a strong new tooth that will reduce your pain and discomfort from your current tooth problem. We are pleased to offer two options in our office: zirconia crowns and porcelain crowns.
While both porcelain and zirconia crowns offer safe, customized, and aesthetically pleasing solutions to chipped or damaged teeth, zirconia crowns tend to be more lasting as they are more durable than those made of porcelain. Their superior strength is able to withstand normal wear and tear from chewing, speaking, and biting, prolonging the lifetime of your crown. In fact, zirconia crowns have a 99 percent survival rate after 5 years while their porcelain alternatives typically need to be replaced every few years. Additionally, their multicolored, translucent, and smooth exterior reduces abrasion of the teeth and gum tissue giving them a more comfortable fit and a more natural appearance than porcelain crowns.
During your consultation we will discuss which option is best for your individual needs. You can rest assured that your crown will be safe, durable, beautiful, and customized to your unique smile. If you have any questions about crowns or think you may benefit from having one, don’t hesitate to contact our office today at (425) 825-8800.
How Teeth Whiteners Work
Zirconia is easily milled, fitted, and cemented to a patient’s tooth, making it a preferable option when it comes to selecting a crown for your chipped or broken tooth. The entire process of customizing and placing a zirconia crown can be completed in one office visit, saving you the time and hassle of multiple appointments. What’s even better is that zirconia crowns are much more cost effective than their porcelain alternatives since they do not have to be sent off to a lab in order to be created and customized.
After receiving your zirconia crown, it is important to follow the after-care instructions given by your dentist. Since your zirconia crown will look and function like your natural teeth, you will be able to brush and floss regularly. Be sure to select a toothbrush and toothpaste that will effectively remove food particles and bacteria from the mouth to best preserve your crown.
At Beetham Dentistry, we provide comprehensive dental exams to figure out your needs and the best type of treatment. If a dental crown is the answer, we are able to provide this service here in our office.
Benefits of Dental Crowns
We might recommend crowns if your teeth are weak, damaged, or cracked to the point that they cannot be fixed in other ways, such as with fillings. While you might have pain and difficulty eating with a current tooth problem, a crown provides a strong new tooth that will contribute to better oral health. After resolving a damaged tooth with the strength of a new crown, you can eat all of the foods you enjoy, no matter how hard it is to bite. Many people are suffering from a lack of confidence from tooth problems, and have lost the joy of smiling due to concerns with their appearance. Dr. Marianna Beetham is especially skilled in providing crowns with an exact match to your other teeth. Even if the tooth in need of replacement is a front tooth, Dr. Beetham can ensure a fabulous restoration of your smile using a crown. A cosmetic dental crown like this provides the look of a real tooth to give you back your best smile and your self-esteem.
We understand that many people are nervous about the idea of getting a crown. Although the idea of a crown may be intimidating at first, our staff will do all they can to ensure your comfort throughout this procedure. Additionally, a crown tends to prevent tooth damage from worsening, which eventually leads to the need for an extraction. At that point, you would need a more extensive dental solution than a crown. With a crown, you gain back the look and function of a real tooth in its healthiest condition without completely removing the damaged tooth, improving your life and health overall.
About Dental Crowns
We have different crown materials to choose from. We use high quality porcelain or zirconia crowns depending on your unique needs for your tooth repair. Each of these materials is hypo-allergenic and can provide an exact match for your tooth color. We can discuss the different materials with you and lend our expertise to find the best balance of price, strength and appearance in each situation. In our office, we use an advanced imaging tool called an iTero scanner, each crown is created by laser 3D printers which makes them extremely accurate.
The core purpose of dental crowns is to promote your oral health and function, while also maintaining or improving the appearance of your smile. This procedure helps restore your mouth to a state of health as you had prior to your tooth being damaged. People tend to get used to a crown quickly and feel like it is simply another one of their natural teeth. Through general dentistry services, we can also help prevent this kind of damage from happening to other teeth, minimizing the need for additional crowns.
For an exam to check whether you need a crown or to move ahead with a recommended crown procedure, contact us at (425) 825-8800 today to set up an appointment.
Porcelain Veneers are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length. We recommend this treatment to anyone experiencing discoloration that cannot be fixed with whitening or if your teeth are damaged. Porcelain veneers are also an option if you’re unhappy with the shape or look of your natural teeth.
A dental technician uses a model created by a dentist to make a custom shell out of specials materials.
Because veneers require removing some enamel, they are usually permanent. Your dentist will typically recommend avoiding food and drink that will stain your veneers. Veneers can chip or crack, but overall the results are worthwhile and many people are thrilled with their new smile.
Veneers are an alternative to more expensive crowns. Porcelain veneers require multiple visits, but they last longer and provide a more stable color than bonding. If you are considering veneers, contact us today to discuss your options with our staff.
Invisalign® is a wonderful, modern alternative treatment to braces. You can straighten your teeth without installing metal in your mouth. Instead, we use plastic trays (also known as aligners) to move your teeth back into place. Each aligner is custom made to fit your mouth so you don’t have to worry about mouth irritation or anything else that traditional braces can cause.
Since the aligners are removable, they are easier to keep clean. You can also continue to brush and floss your teeth without trying to avoid harming your braces. Invisalign® is also popular because the aligners are clear, so most people don’t even know you are wearing anything unless you tell them.
Here at Beetham Dentistry, we are proud to offer whitening services to our patients.
The most common complaint people have about their teeth is their color. There are a lot of whitening products on the market, so it is important to discuss your options with your dentist. There are many things that can affect the color of your teeth. Most people believe discoloration is due to plaque and bacteria, but that is not always the case. In fact, your entire lifestyle can have an effect on your teeth. You might notice that your teeth become discolored due to the food and drinks you consume. Using tobacco can really stain your teeth. Sometimes medications and injuries can also change the color of your teeth.
It is really important to understand why your teeth are discolored so that you can find the best way to treat them.
Teeth-whitening products use a bleaching agent, either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, which breaks up stains into smaller pieces. This makes them harder to see, making your teeth brighter. However, bleaches do not work on all teeth, so it is important to talk to your dentist before you use these products to whiten your teeth.
It's important to know that whitening will not work on caps, veneers, crowns, or fillings that were originally made to match your teeth’s natural color. They also do not always work on discoloration caused by certain medications.
There are many options when it comes to whitening methods, including toothpastes, at-home bleaching, and bleaching in our office. Each one works differently and varies in effectiveness and safety. For this reason, you should talk to us before you decide to whiten your teeth.
There are times when the bleach in the product can affect your enamel. This irritates the nerves, making your teeth and gums really sensitive. This usually goes away, but if you overuse whiteners, they can cause lasting damage, so if you are having any problems, you need to see your dentist.
You deserve a bright, confident smile. Professional, in-office teeth whitening with Philips Zoom is safe, simple, and one of the fastest ways to improve the beauty of your smile. Plus, Philips Zoom is championed by dentists and patients as a pain-free, easy process.
If you take proper care of your teeth, chances are that your dental appointments usually consist mainly of regular whitening services. No matter how diligent you are with your oral hygiene, only a professional cleaning can truly keep your teeth pearly white throughout your life. One great method of in-office teeth whitening is Phillips Zoom. This method is a common practice that many dentists swear by, and there are several reasons why it is so widely recommended.
What is Phillips Zoom?
Phillips Zoom is an in-office or take-home whitening process that will make your teeth as white as possible. We focus on the in-office solution because it provides better results and can be done professionally with no worries about your doing it at home. The in-office whitening solution allows you to make your smile 8 shades whiter in just 45 minutes or less with the use of a light-activated gel. The gel and light work in conjunction to break up dirt and stains on your teeth without damaging their structural integrity. If you want a quick, safe, and healthy way to improve the appearance of your teeth, a professional Phillips Zoom treatmenthat worksy to go. There are several options available as well, so you can pick the one that works best for you.
Phillips Zoom QuickPro
The QuickPro option allows you to whiten your teeth immediately with a simple procedure that can be tagged on to the end of any routine dental visit. In just 30 minutes, your smile will be up to 4 shades brighter and whiter. This method does not use the whitening lamp; you simply take 10 minutes to apply the gel and let it sit as it dries almost instantly. Once it dries, Dr. Beetham will apply a protective sealant that will prevent your mouth from becoming sensitive. After 30 minutes, you can brush all of the residue off and you’ll be amazed at how much whiter your smile is!
Phillips Zoom WhiteSpeed
The Phillips Zoom WhiteSpeed option is a more comprehensive treatment that will help your smile become up to 8 times brighter! This procedure takes about 45 minutes and uses both the gel and the light to help remove stains, such as those that occur from eating certain foods, smoking cigarettes, and aging. After the gel is applied to your teeth, a blue LED lamp will be shined onto your teeth. The light helps to speed up the gel’s whitening process, and it is completely comfortable and minimally obtrusive.
This process will be repeated 3 times over the next 45 minutes, and then you’ll be finished! You get to choose which shade of white you would like to to stop at. Once this has been determined, Dr. Beetham will apply another gel to protect your enamel and reduce sensitivity in your teeth and gums.
If any of these procedures sound like the right option your your smile, schedule an appointment with Dr. Beetham today!
